AUS are proud sponsors of England’s University’s Rugby League.
This weekend (23rdof June) the first games of the Four Nations Tournaments begins. The games this year are held in the beautiful city of Edinburgh, where 6 games will take place across the week with all four countries playing against each other in a battle to win the Students Four Nations Competition.
The squad is selected from over 2,000 players who play University Rugby League each week. The first stage is via a round of Regional Games, where 20 players are selected to play for their region in a weekend of regional challenges; South East v South West, Midlands v Yorkshire, North West v North East. From here the NIDO Student Rugby League Origin Game takes place, with SE, SW and Mids having 20 players selected to represent the South and NW, NE and Yorks combining to represent the North. From the Origin game, they then pick 26 players for the England squad.
Those 26 players have had a weekend training camp and then a series of training sessions and games. The games include 3x games in the President's Cup competition (GB Teachers, GB Police and UK Armed Forces) and have also played 2x friendly games against Halifax Reserves and Featherstone Reserves (both professional reserve grade competitions). Following these games the squad was reduced to 20 men for the Four Nations - this is based on a number of factors including availability, injury, and performance to date.
After the first phase of the England University’s program, the team are prepared for the upcoming games. The 20 man squad are strong with a combination of players who have represented the team in past years and a handful of Semi Pro players.
The Four Nations starts this weekend and are fixtures are as follows:
Sun 23rd, 1pm KO, vs Wales
Wed 26th, 2.45pm KO, vs Ireland
Sat 29th, 3.15pm KO, vs Scotland
All games will be played at the Laurie Liddel Clubhouse, Peffermill Road, Edinburgh, EH16 5LL
We wish the team the best of look in the next two weeks and hope the 20 man squad enjoy the games and defend their title
